Acceptances for the Manawatu Racing Club's Winter Meeting are due at 9 o'clock- next Monday evening. The steeplechase fences for the Wellingtons Meeting next month have al] been set in place. Bonnie Rollox is to do no more racing this winter. He is being prepared for blistering, and then will be turned, out for a spell. The name of Protectress has been claimed for ttv> two-year-old Resinous —Gardant filly whom T. R. George is now preparing for Mr. J. Dealy.' At Riccarton yesterday morning Hunting Go was sent out to, negotiate a round of schooling country, but refused at two of the brush fences. His trainer, Mr. W. E. Hazlett, then brought out Black Banner and the pair gave a very pleasing display over a round. W. J. Wood's pair for flat events at the ■ Wellington Meeting next month, Arctic King and Myriam, will both be ridden by' S. Wilson. P. Burgess has been engaged to take the mounts on Korero and Southern Blood. A- rather surprise omission from the Steeplechase events at the Wellington Meeting is Clarion Call, but the Hunting Song gelding is in the big hurdles and apparently his connections are going to wait a little longer before tackling the big cross-country events in earnest. < Ri E. Coveny has decided to give up training, and his pair, The Sandwich Man and Free Rose, have been taken over by -A. J. Griffin, who is now stationed at Blenheim. Coveny will concentrate on riding, and will again make his headquarters at Riccarton. They have a high opinion in the south of the four-year-old ■ Balboa— Comrhenter gelding Balmenter, who recently wort over seven furlongs and 10J furlongs at Dunedin, and it is interesting to note that the ■ gelding figures in the entries for the Wellington Meeting. The Oamaru trainer T. Hobbs usually has something good when he undertakes trips to Trentham. As a result of a conference held by Hawera trainers and a sub-committea of the Egmont Racing Club it has been decided to alter the plough and trial grass tracks, to turn the present plough into a grass track, and to make what was once the trial grass into a plough track, about 20ft wide. The work is to be carried out as soon as possible and, when completed, the training facilities, it is considered, will be equal to any in the Dominion. A point-to-point meeting was held by the South Canterbury Hunt on Saturday and the maiden event was won by Phaeton, a half-brother by Day Comet to Lord Ranald, a horse who might have been a champion 'chaser v he had remained sound. Phaeton is a light-framed five-year-old gelding with four white stockings, and he is a good jumper who can go fast' under light weights. . -
