COUNCIL'S INVESTMENT
(Special to the "Evening Fos».'}
MASTERTON, This Day.
At its estimates meeting, the Masterton Borough Council, after a division, decided to invest £400 from the abattoir account in the Wellington Centennial Company. Councillor A. Rippon, who opposed the proposal, gave notice to rescind the motion. When it was considered at last night's meeting, the rescinding motion was defeated by 8 votes to' 4. Councillor Rippon made it clear that he was opposing the original motion only on the ground that the amount should not be taken from the credit account of a trading department, but should be a liability over the whole of the ratepayers. When his motion was defeated, .he again gave notice to move at the next meeting of the council that the motion be rescinded and that the sum of £400 from the general account be invested in the company.
