Arvid Kvist, twenty-year-old farm youth (Wisconsin/ .S.A.) looked up from an empty plate recently after 61 minutes of steady pancake eating to realise he had been declared the national champion flapjack devourer— with his father as runner-up; Arvid ate thirty-six pancakes, each seven inches across and very thick, while his father t'j> twenty-eight, in wha*. the sponsors of the competition claimed was the first national contest of its kind. ' There were thirteen entrants.
