CABARET "AT HOME"

IN AID OF MEMORIAL FUND

MANY DINNER PARTIES

i Almost everyone who was present at the "At Home" given in aid of the King George V Memorial Fund by the Mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, and the members of the ladies' executive, in the Majestic Cabaret last night, attended one of numerous dinners or buffet dinners given beforehand. Mr. and Mrs. Hislop were among those who gave dinner parties in their own homes, and Mrs. B. B. Wood, Miss Lorna Brodie, and Miss Joyce Nathan were the organisers of the three large buffet dinner parties which took place in the Grand Hotel.: With such pleasant preludes the dance, which was organised by Mrs. B. B. Wood, was an outstanding success. There were enough people present .to. assure a substantial sum being raised for the fund and yet not too many to spoil the pleasure of dancing on the excellent floor to the strains of the latest dance 'music. . The cabaret, with its green and silver decorations, subdued lighting and mirror balls, gilded cages of love birds and green glass tanks of goldfish, made a suitably modern setting for the many fashionable dance frocks worn. Lovely flowers were also arranged in huge bowls/in the entrance foyer. ' ■ Mrs. Hislop was wearing a smart gown of black georgette trimmed with bands of diamante. Mrs. Peter Fraser, wife of the Acting Prime Minister, was also, present, and on her frock of black chiffon and lace was pinned a spray of orchids. Mrs. B. B. Wood's gown was of the new,: Marlborough blue satin backed crepe self, patterned with shilling spots.

Phyllis Bates and her partner gave an exhibition of the latest ballroom dancing. A spirited Spanish dance was performed by Miss ' ' Miriama Heketa, and Mr. Cheeseman, dressed in Hungarian costume, played gipsy songs on his piano-accordion.
