MEMORANDUM TO CHANCELLOR
(Received May 19, 10.15 a.m.)
LONDON, May 18,
A number of important base metal companies, including the Zinc Corporation and allied interests, have forwarded a memorandum to the Chancellor of the Exchequer showing that the national defence contribution would seriously affect industry.
The City representative of the Australian Associated Press agency learns that the memorandum especially draws attention to pressure which is bound to arige' to transfer the control of these undertakings abroad if the burden of the tax is unduly onerous, and refers to consequential loss to the Exchequer and diversion of purchases from England. The Chancellor has promised to give the memorandum careful consideration.
