With the exception of Glamorgan, who were playing the New Zealanders, all the first-class counties were engaged in championship matches in the series which finished today. Scoring generally was moderate, several sides failing to reach 100 in an innings, and consequently all but one of the matches were won outright. Bowlers were more to the fore than batsmen and a number of them collected six or more wickets in an innings. Butler (Nottinghamshire) led the way with eight for 15 against Surrey; Boyes (Hampshire) captured seven Kent wickfets, and Hammond (Gloucestershire) took six for 26 against Somerset. Centuries were scored by Prentice (Leicestershire),McCorkell (Hampshire), and Allen (Gloucestershire). Results are: — Middlesex v. Sussex, at Lord's.— Sussex 200 (J. Parks 97) and 272.
