SOME RECENT MEETINGS

GRAND UNITED ODDFELLOWS. Council Masters Chapter.—The chapter held a very successful social evening at the Petone Pioneer Lodge rbom when members and their friends were present at a public installation of the .distoct-.cguncTl, officers. The installation ' was1 carried out by thei drand Master, Brp, A.' J. Hooper, assisted by the Deputy Grand Master, Bro. R. Norton, the Grand Secretary, Bro. V. E, Bradstock, the Grand Treasurer, Brp. E McQueen, and the Grand Trustees, Bros. Ponder and Hey. The conductors were Bro. A. Kerse and Bro. a. A. Harnor. Considerable interest was shown by members of the P^! 16 Pioneer Branch on account of the lmstrict Master,. Bro. S. H. Palmer, being a member of that branch. The officers installed were Bro.- Palmer, District Master; Bro. Tritt, Deputy District Master;-Bro. Eyde, District Secretary; Sis. Ryde, District Treasurer; and Bros. Boulton, Mahony, and Davidson," District Trustees.. The District Master, at, the close, pf the.installation ceremony, thanked the officers pi the chapter, and the remainder of the evening was devoted to dancing and musical items by Sis. Hey, Miss JCerse, Sis. HaU, and Mr. Ellis. \ Music was provided by Sis. Murphy and Bro. Bolton. The Council Master's Chapter officers present were Sis. Hooper, Council Master; Sis. Murphy, Deputy Council Master; Sis. Norton, Council Secretary; Sis.1 Harnor, Council War^ den; Sis. McQueen, Council Guardian; and Sis. Griffiths, Council Treasurer. ' _, Star of Newtown Branch. —Sis. Cooper presided over a ■ well-attended meeting, the occasion being the installation of officers by . the District Master. A number of visitors from other branches were present. Four benefit and-three honorary members were initiated. Delegates for the current term were elected, Sis. O'Connell as district delegate and Bro. Wareham as ball delegate, Bro. Kennedy, sports committee secretary, outlined a new system for entertaining the branches and concerning future sports activities.. Much interest was. taken in the "500" tournament played be* tween William Bain and Star of Newtown branches, and which resulted in a win for the home branch.

Loyal Central Branch.—Bio. Fry, N.G., presided, and Sister •• Wallace, P.N.G., supervised. The District Master, Bro. Palmer, Deputy District Master, Bro. Tritt, District Secretary, Bro. Ryde, Sister Ryde, District Treasurer, and Bros. Boulton, Mahony, and Davidson installed the officers. Two new candidates were initiated and three nominated for membership. Sick pay and general accounts were passed for payment. Sister' Hooper and Bro, Hutchinson were elected district delegates and Bro. Kennedy and Couper sports and ball delegates respectively, MANCHESTER UNITY ODDFELLOWS, Loyal Newtown Lodge.—Bro. S. Eades presided over a good attendance. Lodge honours were accorded visitors from Sister Wallis and Bri. tannia-Lodges. Bro. Cooke was congratulated on his success in winning the Beg. Bell Merit Jewel in the recent competition. Bro. Eades and Bro. Carver were elected delegates to attend the annual Indoor Bowls Association meeting. A letter of condolence was sent to Bro. Allcock on the death o his wife. Bro. S. Eades was thanked for his report on the annual meeting of the United Friendly Societies. Dispensary Board. Britannia members brought their set of bowls and ' the conclusion of the meeting a very enjoyable time was spent. Loyal Combination Lodge.—The last meeting was well attended and there were a number of visitor from Sister Wallis, Antipodean (Wellington), and Mount Albert (Auckland) Lodges. Nominations were received for officers fov thfi ensuing term. Bro. Davis reported on the society's donation to the King George Fifth Memorial Fund. Lodge honours were accorded visitors and responses ■ were made on behalf of Sister Wallis, Antipodean, and Mount Albsrt Lodges. At the conclusion of the meeting a dance was held. ORDER OF DRUIDS. Pride of Brooklyn Lodge.—Bro. A. J. Giddens, Arch Druid, presided over s good attendance. The bards reported on sick members and sick pay was passed accordingly. Two members joined by clearance and one candidate was proposed for membership. Bro. Dockery reported on the recent activities of the Druids' Hospital Association. -Bro. Giddens reported on the monthly meeting of the Royal Arch Chapter. At the conclusion of business an enjoyable dance was held in aid of the Christmas Tree Fund.
