CONDEMNED MEATS

The report for 1936 issued by Dr. W. M. Frazer, the Liverpool Port Medical Officer •of Health, states that portions- of recent consignments of New Zealand frozen pigs, pork cuts, mutton, and lamb offal, were'noted as being in a stale condition. One consignment comprised 325 cartons of frozen lamb livers in tins. There were six tins per carton,.each weighing 101b. Upon examination, these were found to be partly mouldy-and decomposing. Another-consignment of New Zealand frozen lamb livers in tins, consisting of 195 cartons, was fully examined. The authorities rejected 6.8 per cent, on account of decomposition, which was apparently due to improper cooling of the .meat before freezing, thereby, retaining the animal heat.
