New Zealand was fortunate for Coronation Day in that an anticyclone of considerable intensity enveloped the whole 'country. Winds consequently 1 were for the most part light and vari- ! able, and the weather was fine. A few scattered showers, however, were ! still reported from the x north-eastern ' and far northern districts of the North Island, where there was a prevalence of onshore breezes from some southi easterly quarter. Though there were j some frosts last night, temperatures [ have been rather milder generally. The t anticyclone is now moving eastwards ' very slowly, and a depression, with an extension to the south, covers" the Tasman Sea. Under its influence winds 1 are turning to the north-east and freshening somewhat, and in the far north rain is falling intermittently. Auckland had fine, clear, and bracing weather-yesterday, with a light southerly breeze. It became overcast during the night, however, and intermittent rain developed, the wind turning to the north-east and freshening. Although it was cloudy at times, the weather la Wellington was beautifully fine with mild temperatures, and it was calm practically throughout. Hours, of bright sunshine totalled 3.4. In Christchurch it was fine and sunny after .the early morning, but in , the evening it again became overcast and drizzling rain set in, these latter conditions persisting this morning. A north-easterly breeze has prevailed there. "•■ Dunedin had clear and cool weather yesterday with scarcely any wind. The night was frosty, the weather this morning being fine with a north-easterly breeze. __—_—
