WELLINGTON OUTCLASSED

Wellington were outclassed in all departments bf'the game in their match against Wairarapa at Karori Park yesterday afternoon. The visitors were faster' and they' combined better in all movements. Play was fairly even in the first spell, but Wellington could not stand up to. the speed of their opponents or compete with their tactics in the second half. Wairarapa had charge of the ' game practically throughout, and when the. final whistle- blew they, had won by 10 goals to 4. At half-time honours were fairly even, the score being 4-3 in favour of Wairarapa, but . thereafter the visitors simply had it their own way and rattled up score after score. In fact, the scoring was almost like that in cricket. Wellington played aggressive hockey in an endeavour to equalise matters, but their tactics were always well countered by Wairarapa, who definitely had more • finish to their play. An injury to Martin towards the end of the game handicapped Wellington to a certain extent, but they still had no excuse for the repeated penetration of their defence. Several'brilliant goals were scored by7the -visitors, and the Wellington goalkeeper was probably the hardest-worked man on the field. Scorers for Wairarapa Were Fisher (4), Foster, Sayer (3), and Jackson (2). Roberts (2), Graham, and Neate were Wellington's only scorers. The umpires were Messrs. C. P. McKenzie and G. Hayne.
