ACADEMY EXHIBITION
The autumn exhibition of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts at the Art Gallery, Buckle Street, will be open today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and this evening from 7 to 9.30 o'clock. This year's show is of a uniformly high standard and the painting of-many of the regular exhibitors shows marked improvement. The visitor's first impression on entering\the gallery is of brightness of colour and cheerfulness of subject and outlook. The exhibits are for the most part landscapes with a fair proportion of stiUlife subjects and portraits which give variety and added interest to the exhibition. The, following pictures in the collection have been sold:— Rain on the Selwyn," by Nugent Welch; A Summer Bouquet,1' by Jean McKay; "Maoris, Otaki Beach," by E. B. Lattey; "Grey Valley," by Archibald F. Nicoll; and "Ngaturi Valley," by T. A. McCormack.
