Butted Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received May 12, 12.10 p.m.) LONDON, May 11. In the Davis Cup competition South Africa eliminated New Zealand by four matches to one. V. G. Kirby (South Africa) beat E. D. Andrews (New Zealand), 6-2, 6-4, 6-3; Fannin' (Soulh Africa) beat D. C. Coombe (New Zealand), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. (These players were substituted after the tie had been decided.) Andrews began shakily and Kirby was smoother and steadier though his backhand was uncertain. He led 5-1 and Andrews fought hard and saved three set points but W/as unable to cope with Kirby's aggressiveness. Andrews's length improved in the second set. His top spin and forehand and sliced service had Kirby in difficulties. The New Zealander led 4-3. However, Kirby recovered owing to his sound volleying, aided by Andrews's errors. Kirby dominated the third set, driving hard to the corners while his defensive play was smooth and steady. He led 4-2 and then relentlessly attacked Andrews's backhand until he became completely the master.
