NORTHERLY WINDS SOON

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light and variable winds, but northerlies gradually setting in and freshening somewhat tomorrow. i Weather fine, with cold night temperatures. The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for light and variable winds at first, but there will be a gradual tendency 'for ■ northerlies which later will freshen somewhat about and to the south of Cook Strait. The weather will be fine generally, but later cloud will increase, and scattered rain will develop in the western and far southern districts of the South Island. Temperatures will be cold tonight with some sharp frosts, but it should be milder tomorrow. ■ "< A slight depression which was located yesterday irf the Cook Strait area passed off fthe east coast last night, but this morning an anticyclone was covering the whole Dominion, pressure being very uniform. Yesterday's weather, was rather cloudy, especially on the East Coast and in the Cook Strait area. Theije was some scattered rain, mostly light in character, but-heavy falls between Wairoa and East Cape were reported. The latter station had a fall of 113 points, and the weather this morning in that area was still rather unsettled. Over the remainder of the Dominion, however, it was fine and pleasant. Winds have been light to moderate in force. Southerlies predominated yesterday, but by this morning the- wind direction was more variable. It was fine in Auckland early; 'yesterday morning, but later it became cloudy and the. afternoon was showery, a light south-westerly blowing. The sky cleared ■in the night, however, and this morning's weather was fine and pleasant with a moderate south-easterly breeze* The rainfall yesterday totalled 15 points. Wellington had some light rain in the early part of the riforning, but there were some brief ' intervals of sunshine later in the day, most of which was overcast. Hours of bright sunshine totalled 1.5 and a trace of rain was recorded'at Kelburn. It was calm yesterday morning, a light easterly breeze blowing in the afternoon. This morning's weather was fine, calm, and pleasant, ' Steady rain fell in Christchurch until 1 p.m., the weather being calm. The afternoon vMas dull and raw, the day's maximum temperature only reaching 46 degrees. It was overcast and misty this morning. Duqedin's1 weather was cold but fair, the wind being light and variable. It was calm • and clear there this morning.
