PRICES IMPROVING
The Bank of New, Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office, as at close of business this week:—There is a weaker tendency, for. wethers. Weaker values are ruling for ewes owing to lack of demand. The demand for lambs is. improving, but prices are practically unchanged. There is a fair demand for chilled -beef. Trade generally is brighter with a better demand. Wethers, light, 4 3-8 dto s|d per lb; heavy. 4d to i 3-8 d per lb; ewes, 3£d to 43-8 d per lb; lambs, 2's 6 7-8 d to 7 l-8d per lb, B's 6|d to 6Jd per lb,' 4's fi}d to 6 3-8 d per lb, seconds 6 5-8 d to 7d per lb; chilled hinds, 5d to 5Jd per lb; chilled fores. 4d to 4Jd ..per lb.. ' ■ . . . • Levin and' Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated May 7, 1937, giving North Island meat quotations as fpllows:-^-Down lambs, 28/361b, ,7 l-8d per lb; 36/421b, 6 5-8 d per lb; crossbred lambs. 28/361b, 7d. per lb; 36/421b, 6 5-8 d per lb; second quality lambs, .average 30/3'llb; 63d per lb; wethers,' under 481b, 5Jd per lb; 48/561b, 4ijd per- lb; 56/641b,' 4id per-Üb;- 64/721b, 4 ; id per lb;' ewes, under ■'■ 481b, 4Jd .per.: :istlb; 48/561b;4d per lb; 56/641b, 3?d'per>db; 64/721b,: 3 5-8 d per lb; New Zealand prime ox beef,1 160/2201b, none offering. Compared with last.week's quotationsl lamb: is unchanged, wethers under 561b and 64/721b, l-8d per lb lower; ewes, 48/721b; l-8d per lb lower. Others unchanged.
