THE DUKE'S THANKS

AUSTRIAN HOSPITALITY

STATEMENT TO PRESSMEN

(Received May 4, 10.45 a.m.) - ST. WOLFGANG, May 3.

The Duke of Windsor's sudden decision to leave for France this afternoon was made after a telephonic conversation with Mrs. Simpson. The Duke, keeping a promise he had made in a statement to Pressmen before leaving, ordered his equerry to summon them, and the journalists, hastening in the doorway, stumbled over the Duke's luggage and golf clubs, which were piled ready for his departure. The equerry stated that the Duke of Wind-> sor had telegraphed to President Miklas thanking the Government, the police, the postal officials, and people of all classes for their untiring kindness and! hospitality. :

The Duke of Windsor was in excellent spirits, and came out to oblige the Press photographers, with whom he jested in German, asking where they all came from.
