ITALIAN CLUB

.The Circle, of Italian Language and Culture opened its 1937 season last Thursday evening at the Lyceum Club, where a very enjoyable meeting was held. It' was largely attended by members and visitors. The president (Signor O. Carraro) opened the meeting with a brief outline of the proposed activities for the forthcoming season, announcing that Professor Boyd Wilson had undertaken to conduct the junior class in the study of the Italian language, and that Signor Vi A. Truda would give instruction to the senior class. By special request, members of the committee repeated a delightful oneact comedy which was most successfully presented last year, entitled "Affitarsi villa Ammobigliata," and translated from the French by Signor A. Comparini. Those taking part were: ■Professor Boyd Wilson and Miss1 F. •Huntingdon as Signor and Signora Pigliatutto; Dr. A. C. Keys and Mr. H. Baker, the two burglars; and Signor Comparini as Signor Amazzmo, the owner of the house "to let." ■ Musical items followed, Miss V. Mackenzie giving much pleasure with her operatic excerpts "Caro Nome" from "Rigoletto" (Verdi) and "Vissi d'arte" from "La Tosca" (Puccini). Signora Comparini then added to the enjoyment of those present with her rendering of "Mattinata," by Tosti and Mascagnfs."Ave Maria." The accompanist for the evening was Mrs. G. P. Aldridge. • Supper and the singing of "Gioyinezza" and "God Save the King" brought the meeting to a close.
