JUNIOR WOMEN'S CLUB

The . monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. Junior Women's Club held recently1 was well attended by members and friends.

Mrs. Tennet, club president, outlined'plans for a membership drive party to'be held early in June, and hoped all would do their best to make the function a success.

The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Ffitch, who gave an interesting account of her recent visit to Colombo as a delegate to the Y.W.C.A. Regional Conference. She mentioned some of the personalities she had met there, among them, Dr. Helen Kirn, who had told the delegates how uncivilised and unChristianised the women of her country were; how much in need of help from more fortunate women in other lands. Mrs. Ffitch described the national dresses of the Burmese, Philippine, and Indian delegates, and she had with her a brilliant "sari" which an Indian lady had given her, and which was much admired. Humorous incidents recounted by the speaker caused much amusement, especially that one concerning the native hostel in Ceylon, where the well-meaning folk insisted on serving their white guests with a full-five-course uneatable dinner rather than allow them to partake of the plain and wholesome rice they themselves eat. Mrs. Ffitch stressed the value of such conferences where women from so many different countries meet, and learn to see each other's point of view.

Members accorded the speaker a hearty vote of thanks.

Mrs. Welch gave much pleasure with her rendering of two songs, and a "home-made" afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Parker and Quin.
