BILBAO EVACUATIONS
BRITAIN TO IGNORE REBELS

RUGBY, May 3.
The Foreign Secretary informed the House of Commons that a reply had been received from the Spanish insurgent authorities recognising the humanitarian and impartial motives of the British Government in the evacuation of refugees from Bilbao, but rejecting the proposal for a number of reasons and making alternative proposals of their own for ensuring the safety of the civilian population. "I would make it clear," he added, "that his Majesty's Government intends nevertheless to give the assistance to which I have referred."
