TO STRIKE ON MAY 22
BRITISH MINERS
NOTICES TENDERED
(British Official Wireless.) (Received May 3, 10.30 a.m.) EUGBY, May 2. In connection with the, negotiation! arising out of the dispute last November at'the Harworth Colliery, and Ja pursuance of the authority recently given by an overwhelming majority in a ballot .of the coalfields to use strika action to enforce the claim for recognition of the Mineworkers' Federation by the Nottinghamshire Owners' Federation, it has been decided to hand in notices in all ' coalfields to ceasa work on May 22. Mines Department officials were in conference yesterday for several hours with representatives of the Nottinghamshire Owners' Federation and the rival Nottinghamshire union which alone has been recognised by the owners since 1926, but no settlement was reached in time to prevent the decision of the miners' delegate conference to tender the notices. It is presumed, however, that the discussions will continue. The Prime Minister, at House of Commons question time on Thursday, undertook to consider the desirability for a debate next week if a settlement is not reached. There would in any case be an opportunity to' raise the matter on the adjournment debate on Thursday before the House rises for the Whitsun recess.
