FRIENDLY FAREWELL

' Mi's, and Miss.Kettle, of "Gaylin," Lower Hutt, gave a delightful five o'clock party on Saturday as a farewell to Mr., Mrs;, and Miss W. N. Haire, who will leave-by the Rangitane for England. The bright reception rooms were tastefully arranged-with flowers, winter hydrangeas in rich tones playing a, leading part, as well as dahlias, and a beautiful group of late roses. The table was particularly artistic, being centred.by a dainty little figure in faint blue lalique, standing in a lalique floating bowl with pale pink begonias and maidenhair fern. The table cover was of lace, and lace mats were under the handsome china which was also an ornament to the ensemble. The decor was greatly.. admired by all the guests.; : . Mrs. Kettle was : wearing a trained gown of;black.!satin and georgette, with trimmings of jet,'and Miss Kettle wore,a reception frock of Coronation blue velvet and satin, also made with a slight train.-. Mtv-and.Mrs. Haire and their daughter were the centre of groups of friends,'and many were the good wishes'given to them for a pleasureable trip Home (Mr. Haire's home being in Ireland), and great pleasure in meeting former friends and a number of relatives. Mrs. and Miss Kettle were cordially thanked for their very pleasant hospitality. . > Miss Haire attended another party given in her honour later in the evening. This was given by Mr. John Harvey, at his home at Karori, when many young friends were present. A quite new and amusing game was keenly contested, and during supper the host gave many good wishes to Miss Haire for. a delightful time while away from New Zealand. The decor was of delightfully toned hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, and dahlias, and in the dining-room, where supper was served, the table' was bright with ' Iceland poppies, the tall candles which were used being to match.
