THE CITY'S PART

MAYOR'S REQUEST

The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, stated today that a vigorous campaign was being launched in the city to augment the King George V Memorial Fund and that the amount of the contribution to be made by the City Council would be announced at the meeting of the finance committee on Monday evening.

"In,conjunction with the central committee I am vigorously pushing forward the appeal for funds for the memorial, to take the form of four permanent children's health camps," said Mr. Hislop, "I have today sent out four .thousand personal letters to firms carrying on business in Wellington and I am also asking them to circulate lists to obtain contributions from the staff members as well as from principals. The indications-so far are that Wellington- is going to come up to its established reputation for rising to the call of a good cause. The City Council's contribution will be discussed next Monday evening, and at the moment I cannot state what the amount will be, beyond that it will be a substantial contribution.

"I should like to stress the fact that it is desired,to spread the donations over as large a field as possible, and a large number of small contributions totalling a substantial amount will evince a much finer spirit than a few large donations totalling the same amount. I hope that the result of the appeal will show that the donations have come from all sections of the community, so showing the regard of all for the memory of our late King and that the form- which the memorial is 1n take has the endorsement of the whole community."

Donations which are sent directly to the central office should be addressed to the City Treasurer, Town Hall, and the envelopes should be marked "King George V JY^morial Fund."
