TRUCK DAMAGED BY FIRE

A blazing truck in Alexander Road attracted considerable attention shortly after 8.30 this morning. Substantial damage was done to the truck before the blaze was finally extinguished by the Fire Brigade's bucket pumps. The truck, a half-ton model, was owned by Mr. Edward Earnshaw, carrier, of Waite Street, Featherston. A back-fire through the carburettor caused, the oil of the engine to catch alight and the flames quickly spread to the bodywork.
