BANKING MONEY
OVERTIME TO BE PAID
Paying overtime to bank money is ( the latest' development in the unex-j pected effects of the Government's legislation. This was disclosed at last night's meeting of the Wellington Show Association. The manager of a Wellington bank wrote to the executive "as follows:— "As the result of recent legislation the extension of the usual facilities to your association would involve the payment of overtime to our officers, and rather than meetjthis, charge you might prefer to deposit'; your .takings at the bank only on this.two or three heaviest days, or prior .to a Holiday." We had one experience of £30 being stolen from the office. It might easily happen again. It was agreed to pay the requested overtime to safeguard the takings. A further instance where the legislation had affected the association was reported in 'the case of the proposed procession of tradesmen's displays, it being stated that the five-day week would prevent the drivers of many vehicles from taking : part ■on the Saturday. The procession has. been abandonee!
