CATTLE PRICES RISE

Prices were generally firm to dearer at the livestock sales held in the Dominion this week. Both cattle and sheep sold well at the local sale and full entries at Addington met a sound market.

;■ A smaller entry than usual of ox beef , I was cleared at firmer rates at Westfield. 1 Sheep were in shorter supply and ■ values inproved. There was an average yarding of lambs which sold frea[ly at last week's rates. The yarding ■I of calves was far smaller than usual | and values rose sharply, prices for all classes being 10s a head better. Pigs were in betfer supply and competition ■ was keen, with prices well up to recent improved levels. There was an increasing demand for baconers. At Burnside the market for fat cattle opened easier but firmed as the sale progressed to last week's values. The entry of fat sheep was well in excess of the previous week. There was a good, percentage of prime ■ wethers, prices for which improved. The fat pig market was unchanged. JOHNSONVILLE PRICES. An overflow yarding of cattle met with a spirited sale at the Johnson- | ville sale yesterday, prices for bullocks being par to 5s better than export. There was little inquiry for light cattle. Heavy cows met an excellent sale at prices showing an advance on recent sales of 10s per head. A good yarding of wethers came forward, mostly heavyweight sheep which sold readily at late rates. Ewes came forward in smaller numbers than usual, but met with good competition, and prices were par to Is dearer. Lambs met wil.h good competition and returned prices a little above schedule. Prices were as follows:— Prime extra heavy bullocks, £13 *7s 6d to £12 15s; prime heavy, £12 7s 6d to £11 17s 6d; heavy, £11 12s 6d, £11 ss; extra prime heavy cows and heifers, £10 6s to £8 10s; prime heavy, £7 10s to £6 12s 6d; cows and heifers, £5 10s to. £4 2s 6d; vealers, £3 10s to £2 3s. l Prime extra heavy wethers, 32s 9d, 31s sd; prime heavy, 30s 3d to 29s 3d; medium, 27s 4d; prime 4 extra heavy ewes, 25s 6d to 24s Id; prime heavy 23s 6d to 22s 6d; medium, 20s; heavy lambs, 26s to 245; medium, 23s to 225; light, 21s to 20s.
