STREET-WIDENING WORK
'(To the Editor.) Sir,—At Petone the Borough Council, step by step, has widened Jackson Street, the main thoroughfare of the town. In Wellington our City Council should make a start with Taranaki Street widening, and do something to clean up this part of the city area. In times.of ,depression it is said there is no money, in times of prosperity nothing is done, and so nothing is ever done. Such is the modern way of a large city local body., It is feared that city works will be starved for the benefit of the Centennial Exhibition, and then the slump will follow and still the cry will go up no money—l am, etC" PROGRESS.
