A ROAD CODE
Compiled by the Transport Department, a road code will be sent to every householder in New Zealand next month. It will contain rules for the guidance of pedestrians,: cyclists, and motorists in observing safety on the roads.. In referring to the decision to issue the code, the Commissioner of Transport (Mr. G. Laurenson) said in Christchurch yesterday that one of the main troubles to be overcome in establishing greater safety on the roads and more efficient passage of traffic was the lack of knowledge-, among all sections of the community of the ordinary rules of procedure (reports the "StarSun"). For that reason a simple and easily understood code had been compiled. It. would be sent to every home in New Zealand. Drivers obtaining licences would also be given a copy of the code and a copy of the traffic reguulttions.
