CONFIDENCE IN BLUM
VOTE IN CHAMBER
HIS BEST-REASONED SPEECH
PARIS, March 24.
Rejecting by 371 votes to 2,08 the proposal for a Parliamentary Commission to inquire into the Clichy disorders, the Chamber of Deputies at 6 a.m. passed a vote of confidence in the Prime Minister, M. Leon Blum, by 3C2 votes to 215.
M. Blum's speech is considered to have been the best reasoned of his career. He impressively appealed to the party for restraint for the sake of the country's good and to redress the ill-effects the Clichy riots had created at the very moment when the success of the defence loan had lifted up France's prestige.
