REMARKABLE INSTANCES

Although the American War of 1812 ended more than 121 years ago, two pensioners of that war are still on the rolls" of the Veterans' Bureau, according to the annual report of its administrator, Brigadier-General Frank T. Hines, says the "Christian Science Monitor." '

One of the two pensioners is a widow of a veteran of that war who receives £10 a month from, Uncle Sam. Her husband, Darius King, was a private in Stevens' Company of the New York Militia. Mrs. King now lives in Cheektowaga, N.Y. "The other pensioner is Esther Ann Hill Morgan, daughter of John Hill, private in Clark's and McCumber's Companies of the New York Militia, because of whose services she now receives £4 a month.

The Mexican War, which ended in 1848, is still important on the pension rolls, where 257 widows are registered drawing payments which totalled £30,000 in 1936.
