CIVIC WORKS
MORE INTEREST NEEDED
The suggestion that steps should be taken to awaken ratepayers' interest in civic works of necessity was made by Councillor P. M. Butler, when commenting last night on the defeat of the recent loan proposals.
Councillor Butler said that in view of the coming Centennial celebrations the effect of the defeat of the loan proposals would be far-reaching. Many of the streets needed attention, and it seemed that work would have to be done out of revenue. He suggested that the Mayor should convene a public meeting and form a society, the object of which would be to educate the public up to the necessity of works being carried out. Later, the proposals which had been defeated might again be placed before the • ratepayers. ■
