TROTTING NEWS

WANGANUI MEETING

TOMORROW'S PROSPECTS

EXHIBITIONS BY CHAMPIONS

Fields for the Wanganui Trotting Club's opening day on Saturday are an all-round improvement on those of the previous year, particularly in the intermediate division, in which some great racing'is promised. The club has always been enterprising, and the feature events this year will be the match races between Harold Logan and Glenrossie, two o£ the greatest horses bred outside of America. A greater attraction than this could not be wished for by Wanganui patrons. Betting will be on the single-pool system, with two dividends of 75 and 25 per cent, in all events as they stand. Following is a resume of the form:- — 11.30.—First Kxhlbltion match, Harold Logan t. Glenrossie, I>4 miles, standing. ' 12.0 INNOVATION HANDICAP, £T0; 5.43 class; IV2 miles. Tangaroa scr Transfer scr Loyal Betty ... scr Worthy Member scr Loch Leven .... scr Tan John (T.) . 12 Roman Chief ... scr Northern Guy .. 88 Little Acron ... scr Relax 36 Casb Down .... scr Many of the maiden pacers engaged in the Innovation Handicap are unknown quantities, and some of them will be having their first start. Tangaroa showed some promise at Auckland Meetings in the spring, and Roman Chief has been placed. Cash Down is one of F. J. Smith's horses, and will no doubt be ready to do the stable credit. Transfer and Northern Guy are prospects, a likely issue being Cash Down, Roman Chief, and Transfer. 12.40 *- KIKKWOOD HANDICAP, £70; trotters; 8.19 class; IVs miles. Glen Bingen .... scr Howley's Wrack scr BhTOrtliy scr King Franz ... 36 Hard Lad scr Native Bird .... GO Native Guy .... scr Arapai 144 Waingake, scr • Biworthy's placed performances at Wairarapa present him as a distinct possibility in the Kirkwood Handicap. He is a solid young trotter, and is much improved. Rowley's Wrack, by Wrack from May Reta, who was a useful winner, has breeding. King Franz would have a chance if he kept down, but the favourites may be Biworthy and Howley's Wrack. 1.20 JSASTBROOK HANDICAP,' £S0; 3.39 dais; Ha miles. Ann Pointer ... scr Trevor de Oro .. 24 Northern Guy .. scr First Aid 38 Bopata ....... scr Boadster 4S Savoldi • scr Baron Grand .. 60 Do la Palx 12 Silver Black ... (iO Mr Guy 12 De la Paix has strong claims in the Eastbrook Handicap. She was a convincing winner at Hutt Park in, February. Northern Guy is in his own class here. Ropata has the form, but may need the race. Ann Pointer, First Aid, Roadster, and Trevor de Oro all have fair credentials. Many will go for De la Paix and Ann Pointer. 2.0 WANGANUI HANDICAP, £175 and canteen of cutlery; 4.43 class; 2 miles. Clorletta .... scr Kenworthy .... VI Full nand scr Bonnie Direct .. 12 Activity scr Meadow King .. 12 Levity scr Ked Flush 32 Reno scr Winshow 86 The Wanganui Handicap favourite should be Red Flush, whose Nelson performances stamp him as a good twomiler headed for high-class company. Glorietta has been very consistent, but may need a race run to suit her to 'get two' miles just now. Levity has won up to a mile and five furlongs and is bred to stay. Reno was no use to Red Flush at Nelson, but is a place prospect, and so is Ken worthy. Selections are Red Flush and Levity. 2.45 AUTUMN HANDICAP, £T0: 8.5 class; X% niiles. Tapanul Lady . scr Connemara ' .... scr Tangaroa scr Worthy Audubon Bcr Loyal Betty .... scr Real Direct ... scr Loch Leven .... scr Worthy Member . scr ■ Roman Chief .. scr Truman 24 Little Acron ... scr Queonle Direct .. 48 Accel scr Form in the Innovation Novice Handicap will have some bearing on the Autumn Handicap, but newcomers in Worthy Audubon and Accel will be hard ones to head off. Worthy Audubon was placed in a stronger field at Hutt Park last Saturday. Tangaroa and Truman are possibilities. Form points to Worthy Audubon, with Accel likely to improve. 3.25 PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP, £S0; unhoppled trotters; 5.4 class; 2 miles. Glen Bingen ... scr Dollar Maid 60 King Franz scr Reception 72 Blworthy scr Tan John 108 Hard Lad scr Arapai 156 Native Bird .... 60 Except for the backmarkers, there is an absence of solid two-mile talent in the President's Handicap, and if Tan John would settle down it is probable he would go close to winning from 108 yards. But his Wellington exhibitions were bad. Reception was a winner over a mile .and a half at Cambridge in January, and there was a good deal of merit in her effort from 48yds. Dollar Maid won over two miles at Nelson and went fairly at Hutt Park in February. There will be support for Reception and Dollar Maid. 3.4o.—Second exhibition match, Harold Logan v. Glenrossie, 1 mile, moving-up start. 4.20 FOSTER'S HANDICAP, £S0; 3.0 class; Hi miles. Trevor de Oro . scr Orlelgh Mills ... 24 Savoldl scr Baron Derby .. 24 De la Pail .... scr Silver Black ... 36 Abyssinian King scr Decoy Bird .... 4S Mountain Flight . scr Juggler 48 Dusky Chum .. 12 Native Cole .... 48 Effle Parrish .. 24 Great Chum .... 48 Mountain Flight finished second to Our Peggy over a mile and a half in good-time at Epsom recently, and she is entitled to respect in the Foster's Handicap. She is another of F. J. Smith's team. De la Paix will keep her busy if unpenalised, and Abyssinian King, Dusky Chum, Erne Parrish, Baron Derby, and Silver Black are all likely to add interest. Best backed may be Mountain Flight, De la Paix, and Effie Parrish. * 5.0 MORTON MEMORIAL .HANDICAP. £110; 2.53 class; IVi miles. Glorietta ser Frank Best.... scr Full Hand scr Renn scr Activity scr Kenworthy ..... 12 Storm Queen ... scr Broughshune .. 12 Silk Cord ...... scr Rayon dOr .... 12 Bollnda King .. scr Winshow ..... ~i Glorietla has been beginning smartly in her recent races, and may be due for an overdue turn in the Morton Memorial Handicap. In Silk Cord, Frank Best, Reno, Kenworthy, and Broughshane she will encounter a field equally as strong^ as those in which she was placed in her two starts at Wellington, but it is thought that she will match the speed of all of these. Recovery stakes may go on Glorietta and Frank Best.
