POINTS FROM LETTERS
"Mother" writes regarding the question of decreasing births. The correspondent suggests that "the Government should give free treatment at St. Helens to mothers who.can show that they can't afford payment; also a free kit of clothes for a baby. This is a very great necessity, or failing that, a bonus of, say, £5 or £6 to each deserving mother so that we can hold our heads up when we are inmates of St. Helens and feel that we can pay our way which we cannot do under the present scale of charges when we already have more children than we can afford to keep."
H. G. Aitken suggests that in the appointment of traffic officers, the Council should not confine such. appointments to its own employees but sho-' 1 give men outside the Council's staffs an opportunity of securing some of the positions.
