THE AMERICAN EMBEZZLER
The United States" Fidelity anjl Guaranty company recently investigated a thousand and one cases of embezzlement, and,- as a consequence, announced that the typical embezzler is just an average, normal human being. The typical embezzler in America at least the company said, is:—A "white collar" worker, 36 years old, married, with two children, and possessing high school education, a salary of about 175 dollars (say, £45) a month, and a medium-priced car not yet fully paid for. He is a good mixer, loved by his family, liked by his friends. He enjoys a drink, but rarely takes it during business hours; he is competent and smart, has held his' position for five years and a half, and has honestly earned a position of trust in his firm. Almost a third of embezzlers are led to take money or property because they live beyond their means, says the company. Next largest classification were those who got "in a hole" through liquor, gambling, or speculation. Spendthrift wives and children or "the other woman" account iot about 11 per cent, of the total.
Orang-utans fight much among themselves. They fight -by biting, and usually it is the fingers and toes that suffer. Frequently when these tenacious animals are killed by hunters they are found to be minus several fingers or toes.
