PENALTY ON RATES
: Though a fortnight ago it seemed probable that the rates payments at the City Treasury this-year might fall rather behind the high percentage reached on penalty day last year, there has been a very brisk run of paying in by cash over the counter and by cheque through the post this week, and during the last few days the amounts have approached £.10,000 a day. The 10 per cent, penalty will be imposed on all rates not paid by Monday afternoon. The Hates Office will not be open on Saturday.
