THE NUFFIELD GIFT
MAKING ALLOCATION
APPLICATIONS ASKED
The Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop)
stated today that he had received a cheque for £9650, being the proportion of the munificent gift of Lord Nuffleld for distribution among the various charitable organisations in the Wellington city and suburban area. "It is my intention to make the distribution at the earliest possible date," said Mr. Hislop, "but before doing so I desire to receive applications from the various charitable organisations operating within the district who may consider themselves entitled to share in the gift. "The principle upon which the distribution will be made is that the gift is to be primarily applied for the assistance of women and children, and in particular to those who are suffering from particular afflictions, crippled children, the blind, and the deaf and dumb. At the same time, those organisations which minister generally to the health and welfare of women and children will be entitled to. share in the distribution, and I shall therefore be glad if such organisations will make immediate application to me. With each application there .should be submitted full details as to the activities of the organisation, financial position, and generally such "material as is furnished to organisations such as the Macarthy Trust when asking for consideration in the distribution of charitable funds.
"Such applications must roach me not later than Monday next, March 15, and I hope to be able to make the distribution immediately after that date.
"I cannot conclude this statement," added Mr. Hislop, "without again expressing through the Press the thanks of the people of Wellington for Lord Nuffleld's magnificent generosity."
