SHIFTS FOR PLAY
At Baird's, a canning factory at Banning, near Maidstone, England, they 'sandwich play., in with work. At 12 30 p.m.: the workers—most of them women—knock off for lunch. At 1 o'clock they become singers, actors, dancers, and pantomimists for a halfhour programme of variety skits, mock movie trouts, and other foolishness, designed -J make them forget for a =pell their monotonous tasks at the conveyer belts. The Ministry of Agriculture is making films of the factory talent shows for distribution to other employers.
