INCREASED BUSINESS
RAILWAY RETURNS
LARGE STAFF INCREASE

f INVERCARGILL, This Day. Speaking at a social given in his honour by railwaymen the Hon. D. G. Sullivan said that despite the restrictions imposed because of infantile paralysis the railway business had increased. The position compared with last year would be: Revenue, £7,741,000, an increase of £736,684; expenditure, £6,834,000, an increase'of £881,000.
Additional staff engaged as a result of the introduction of the 40-hour week totalled 1425, and approximately 200 were still required to complete the staffing position.
