RADIO ANNOUNCEMENTS

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—May I be allowed to protest against the habit some radio announcers have of intimating three or four items at once, with the result that listeners who miss the announcement are left wondering what the items are unless these are known. This was especially noticeable in a recent programme when several records by Simon Barer were played. This artist, who, in the opinion of leading connoisseurs, is undoubtedly the world's greatest pianist today, surely deserved different treatment—especially should the marvellous performance of a piece for the left hand alone have received special mention, otherwise listeners would naturally imagine that two hands were used. I suggest that such superlative performances be described both before and after the hearing,—l am, etc.,

LEWIS DALY.
