A MYTH EXPLODED
GJ3.S. has himself exploded another Shavian myth. He has done it through >a letter which appears in a book dealer's catalogue, and which explains the origin' of the legend of Isadora Duncan's proposal of marriage- to him.
He says:—
"No beautiful American dancer has ever proposed marriage to me on eugenic or any other grounds. The Italian journalist invented the dancer and her proposal, stole the witty reply from Herr Max, and chose me for tha hero of his tale because newspapers always buy stories about me. Ninetynine per cent, of those stories are flat falsehoods; one-half per cent, are halftrue. The remaining half per cent, are true, "but spoilt in the telling."
So, until G.B.S. writes his' autobiography, we shall never get the Shavian truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, pure and undefiled. '' -
