Heavy early morning rain has made the wicket soft for the resumption of the Test match. The captains agreed to resume at noon, but it is expected that if the weather remains fine, the wicket later will prove difficult. At 1 o'clock (Melbourne time) England's score was 236 for six wickets. (Hardstaff 83, Wyatt 38 not out, Ames 10, Allen 0 not out, extras 13).
