WICKETS THROWN AWAY

LONDON. March 1.
The sorry contrast between the Australian and English batting is • referred to by H. A. H. Carson'in the "Evening News." He says: "We threw away wickets with unbelievable prodigality. Barnett and Hammond were oiit to strokes unworthy of them. We have not much batting to come and I do not think we will get out of the mess, but I am hoping we will make a better show tomorrow. Should we lose we will make no excuses."
