CLINIC PLANNED

FOR THE HUTT VALLEY

The statement that the Wellington Hospital Board would establish a clinic near the Lower Hutt traffic bridge was made by Mr. J. Purvis,. representative of the Upper Hutt Borough and the -Hutt County on the Hospital Board, at the meeting of the Upper Hutt Borough Council, when the proposed hospital loan was under consideration. Mr. Purvis said that the clinic .would serve the two big boroughs, as the two district nurses would be housed there, and also 'a doctor, who would attend to accident cases before' sending them on to the main hospital. It would be the centre of the Welfare Department for the valley. "Will this be done, soon?" asked Councillor A. Howell.

"Within a year I think," replied Mr. Purvis. ■,'..''.»••■

Several councillors remarked that the Hutt Valley was big enough to support a hospital. .Councillor F. P. Keys stated that the hospitals should be a national responsibility. ' The Mayor (Mr A. J. McCurdy) and Councillors G. H. Guthrie, J. Blewman, and W. Grieg were appointed delegates to the conference called by the superintendent of the Wellington Hospital (Dr. A. R. Thorne), when the scheme will be explained as regards the main loan proposal.
