Dark Hazard was the most impressive of the young pacers raced at the last■" Wellington Meeting, and. he won easier on his third appearance than in his maiden success. If he .has , improved as much between then and now'as he did during the. last-Wel-lington Meeting he will be a tough hut to crack next Saturday.

• Concliff, a very speedy Australianbred horse, who won several races in New Zealand for the late W. J. Tomkinson, is siring" winners in Tasmania. One of his progeny, Old Home, won a double at the North Eastern Trotting Club's Meeting, recording very smart times for the track. Handicapped on 4min, he won the Eastern Handicap in 3min 38sec and-off 2min 36sec won the Derby Mile in 2mln 26sec. The nomination of 81 present yearlings for the New Brighton Challenge Stakes, to be decided in 1938, must be regarded as very satisfactory, and.this response shows the keen interest of owners of young horses. Run over, a mile and .a quarter, the Challenge Stakes will provide' a splendid trial for the New Zealand Derby, to,-be decided at Addington some weeks later, and it will increase".the interest in the blue ribbon.
