Perfect conditions prevailed at Akaroa for the New Zealand championship regatta today, the Dominion selectors'were present with a view to selecting the New Zealand crew to compete at-the Empire Games at Sydney .in February.. , Results:—.... ... ■ ■ ■■ Champion Single Sculls, 14 miles — R. B. Smith (Auckland), 1; D. .A. Abbott (P-etone), 2; A. Morey (Auckland), 3. Three lengths; one length. Time, 9min 41sec. Smith, last year's champion, had no difficulty in retaining the title. The .unplaced men, A. K. Jackspn (Union, Wanganui) and •T. Hegglun (Wairau) soon dropped back, and the three placed men fought out the issue. ■ Abbott challenged Smith at the mile, but the Aucklander went away to a comfortable win. Junior Fours, 1J- miles.—Awarua (L. Hawker, F. West, O. Wares, M. West), 1; Union, Christchurch, 2; Canterbury, 3. There were seven starters. ■ All the crews were called back after half a mile as there were two fouls. Woa by a length, with Canterbury a length further back. Time, 9min 26sec.
■-Maiden Double Sculls, 1 mile.— Akaroa (K. Rhodes, A. J. Philips), 1; Cure,. 2; Canterbury, 3. Five lengths, two lengths. Time, 7min 46 l-ssec.
Maiden Fours, 1 mile.—Awarua (G. Williamson, N. Johnston, Si West, D. Robins), 1; Star, 2; Sumner-Redcliffs, 3. Half a length; nine lengths. Tjme, 7min 16 4-ssec.
. Champion Fours, 1J miles.—Petone (O. Clayton, A. Hope, R. Boswell, B. Rigby, C. Burns), 1; Port Chalmers, 2; Otago, 3. Three lengths; two lengths. Eleven crews started. A brisk north-west wind sprang up and -Hamilton, Star, and Avon retired." Petone soon showed out and never looked like being beaten. Port Chalmers and Otago had a great struggle for second. Youths' Four^_ 1 mile. —Union, Wanganui (J. C. O'Donnell, J. Lumsden, S. Butcher, I. Longman), 1; Union, Christchurch, 2; Otago, 3. Six lengths.
