FOURTEENTH AMENDMENT

WASHINGTON, February 26.
Senator Borah introduced a pro posal for a constitutional amendment to redefine the Fourteenth Amendment to the • Constitution containing the so-called "due process," close interpretation, of which by the Supreme Court for half a century has resulted in' the invalidation of much legislation, both State and' Federal,' which attempted to deal - with economic and social problems, on the'ground. • that; such laws deprived citizens' of life, liberty, and property without due process at i law. While Senator Borah's proposal does not cover the entire problem in which the President has demanded power to remake the Supreme Court, it is claimed that it, is in. the,interest ot those who are seeking a compromise, since it would assure the legality of a 1 considerable amount of New Deal legislation which is contemplated. ■-.'-,
