WEATHER FORECAST

UNSETTLED, BUT ON THE . MEND

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate northerly winds, freshening: somewhat. Weather for the most part cloudy and warm. The general forecast is lor light to moderate and variable winds with north-easterlies or northerlies predominating. A temporary improvement is possible in most places, but conditions are still rather unsettled, with scattered rain more especially in districts with a westerly aspect. The weather generally has been cloudy and overcast with mist and fog in places. Scattered and mainly light rain has fallen, but in the area surrounding Cook Strait there have been a few further heavy downpours. Light to moderate north-easterly to northerly winds have continued to prevail. The shallow depression which was located to the west of the Dominion had this morning practically filled up, and pressure is now fairly high over the whole area, so that though this morning it was still rather unsettled, conditions appear to be on the mend in many parts of the country. In Auckland the weather has been warm but overcast, with freshening north-westerly winds. Wellington yesterday had mostly dull, muggy conditions, with a light north-westerly wind. Bain commenced about 3 p.m., and the. night was showery. The rainfall amounted to 59 points, and there were two hours of sunshine. The weather was dull throughout the day in Christchurch, with intermittent rain and a strong north-easterly wind in the afternoon. This morning it was overcast with a gentle east-north-east breeze. The total rainfall was 3 points. It was a dull, misty day in Dunedin yesterday, with occasional showers accompanying a north-east breeze. At 9 a.m. today it was calm, but still dull and misty. The rainfall was 4 points.
