FOR A GOOD CAUSE

The part played by the Smith Family, among other voluntary charitable bodies, in alleviating as far as possible the Avorst effects of the depression is still, perhaps, not as fully .appreciated by the general public as it should be. Though better limes have come, much remains to be done, for it is only 100 clear that it Anil be a long while yet before many recoi'er from the effects. This is especially the case with wives and- mothers on whom the heaviest burden often fell. It is to the assistance of these that the Smith Family is now directing its attention by providing them with a brief holiday in the country by which they may secure a much-needed rest. The work that is iioas' being done Avas explained in yesterday's , "Post," where it was stated: The health of many mothers of families is such that it is imperative that they be given a rest and in many cases medical attention. The Smith Family is therefore arranging with the medical profession and the Plunket nurses that a complete change of environment in the country and the necessary treatment shall be made availjable for womenfolk, particularly mothers, ■ whose state of health demands complete rest. Instances are given of the beneficial results and the gratitude of the beneficiaries. The work has the full support of the medical profession and the Plunket nurses who "welcome ■ this collaboration Avith the Smith Family in a very special way, and greatly hope it may be continued." The cost, of course, is considerable—approximately £5 10s for tAvo weeks in each case—and this constitutes a big-drain on the Smith Family funds. An appeal is therefore made to the public for assistance and it should not be made in vain.
