DECISION IS GIVEN

COUNCIL WILL ACCEPT IT

MR. HISLOP'S COMMENT

"The decision which the ratepayers have given is final, and therefore we are unable to proceed with any proposals which they have rejected," stated the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, commenting upon the poll.

"It is to be regretted that so few people took the trouble to record their votes, but those who did vote cannot have any cause for complaint at the result," said Mr. Hislop. "Those who did vote showed their desire to take an active part in civic administration, and their decision must be taken to be the view of the ratepayers of the city.

"I am glad that the proposal for improved sewerage has been carried. Personally, I regret the decision

against the extension, of the aerodrome. The other matters are of less importance, but I accept fully the decision of the ratepayers upon all the questions submitted. It was the desire "of my fellow-councillors and myself to submit all these matters with all relevant information for the consideration of those who provide the money. Having done that, we have given them the opportunity to decide, and, of course, accept the decision."
