INTERNATIONAL'S PROMISE

The horses .set for the big .hack prizes on the present autumn circuit in the Auckland district have for the most part been a trifle unlucky. At Rotorua recently Lady Siegfried was beaten by the shortest of margins, and at Te Rapa oh Monday International 'was narrowly downed in the waikato Hack Cup by the moderately-fancied Valrent, who nevertheless was due for the win. , If was rather surprising to find International so heavily backed, as on the recent Taranaki circuit he did not wholly live up to the promise he gave in so hotly pressing Taitoru at Wanganui last month. He was the unlucky horse on Monday, for he was well back in the early" running and then had to come wide on the outside. The performance was sufficient to justify "the opinion formed about this three-year-old chestnut son of Captain Bunsby and that useful mare' Vivo after his Wanganui race, and the colt may make amends in the champion event at Te Aroha on Saturday.
