FAILING TO STOP

MOTOR-CYCLIST FINED

The statement that a motor-cycle had taken a corner of Oriental Parade at 40 miles per hour, had accelerated to 50 miles per hour, and that the driver had switched off his light when a traffic inspector waved him to stop, was made in the Magistrate's Court today, when James Falleni was charged before Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., with travelling at a speed which might be dangerous and with failing to stop when requested. Mr. A. R. Cooper prosecuted. The defendant failed to appear.

Traffic Inspector Petherick stated that he was on duty in Oriental Parade on the evening when the defendant, and another motor-cyclist came around a banked corner at 40 miles per hour and accelerated. He ' had been standing on the pavement under a light, and stepped out to stop them, but he had toget back on to the pavement again. Neither stopped, and both switched off their lights. Falleni was, however, not fast enough and his number was read.

Next night the inspector stopped Falleni, who apologetically admitted the offence.

Falleni was fined 30s and costs on the first charge, and 20s and costs on the second.
