BOARD TAKES ACTION

POSITION AT IVIASTERTON

(Special to the "Evening Post.") MASTERTON, This Day. The rather alarming statement that the younger generation of New Zealanders did not show the same immunity to infection from pulmonary tuberculosis as in the past was made by Dr. H. A. Shore, Director of the Hospitals Division of the Health Department, in the course of a discussion at yesterday's meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board on the health of the nurses at the Masterton Hospital. A report dealing with the general health of the nurses, and referring more particularly to the incidence of T.B. among nurses, was received from Miss M. I. Lambie, Director of the Nursing Division. The Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, who wrote enclosing a dopy of Miss Lambie's report, stated that ■in addition to carrying out the various recommendations contained in the report the board was strongly advised to take some. immediate action to relieve the congestion in the nurses' home. "In view of the fact that during the last twelve months there have been at least seven members of the nursing staff under review, either as having tuberculosis or suspected of being infected, I cannot too strongly recommend to the board to take all possible remedial measures without delay," stated Dr. Watt. It was decided to put into effect the recommendations as presented by Miss Lambie that were not already being carried out and to provide sick-bays for nurses.
